Formulated especially for aviation piston engines, AeroShell 80W oil keeps engines clean, sludge free and protects engine parts against wear. It also reduces oil consumption and keeps an engine running smoothly over its lifespan. This ashless dispersant oil combines high viscosity index base oils and non-metallic additives for stable, anti-foaming performance with no ash residue that can deposit on spark plugs and in combustion chambers. AeroShell 80W is designed to meet SAE specification J-1966.

AeroShell Oils 65, 80, 100 and 120 are produced to meet fully the SAE specification J-1966 (Grades SAE 30, 40, 50 and 60 respectively). Furthermore, they all have military qualification approval and are listed on the Qualified Products List (QPL) issued by the US Navy and on the Technically Acceptable Products List (TAPL) issued by the UK Ministry of Defence. The blending plants employed to manufacture these oils also hold the approval of the specification authorities and this ensures that the high quality standard is always maintained.

Frequently asked questions

Find answers to common questions about our products and services
  • AeroShell 80W is formulated specifically for aviation piston engines, where it keeps engines clean, sludge-free, and protects internal parts against wear while reducing oil consumption.

  • Ashless dispersant means the oil uses non-metallic additives that produce no ash residue. This is important because ash deposits can accumulate on spark plugs and inside combustion chambers β€” avoiding them helps maintain consistent ignition performance and overall engine cleanliness.

  • Under SAE specification J-1966, AeroShell 80W corresponds to SAE Grade 40. This places it in the mid-range of the AeroShell piston engine oil lineup, which spans from SAE Grade 30 (AeroShell 65) up to SAE Grade 60 (AeroShell 120).

  • AeroShell Oils 65, 80, 100, and 120 correspond to SAE Grades 30, 40, 50, and 60 respectively under SAE J-1966. The correct grade for your engine depends on your aircraft engine manufacturer's viscosity recommendation β€” consult your engine manual or maintenance documentation to select the appropriate grade.

  • Yes β€” AeroShell 80W holds military qualification approval and is listed on the Qualified Products List (QPL) issued by the US Navy as well as the Technically Acceptable Products List (TAPL) issued by the UK Ministry of Defence.

  • The high viscosity index base oils help the oil maintain stable, consistent viscosity across a range of operating temperatures, which contributes to reliable anti-foaming performance and steady protection throughout the engine's operating cycle.
