#1400 SERIES GRINDING OILS

#1400 SERIES GRINDING OILS are light viscosity oils designed for high performance grinding of High speed steel, Carbide and Cobalt.

#1400 SERIES GRINDING OILS are blended from virgin group II petroleum oils.   This allows for finer finishes while maximizing cleanliness, cooling and flushing properties.

#1400 SERIES GRINDING OILS possess a very light color and low odor, while foaming far less than conventional grinding oils. The low viscosity and low misting potential helps to minimize oil consumption.

#1400 SERIES GRINDING OILS do not include sulfur or chlorine, making these oils multi-
metal safe.   The incorporation of additives to inhibit oxidation maximizes oil life in central systems or individual machines.

#1400 SERIES GRINDING OILS is easily filtered using Edge type filtration.   The narrow molecular weight distribution within the oil vastly improves filtering efficiency.

As with any industrial product, proper caution should be exercised when handling, using, and disposing of this product.

Frequently asked questions

Find answers to common questions about our products and services
  • This oil is specifically designed for high-performance grinding of high speed steel, carbide, and cobalt. Because it contains no sulfur or chlorine, it is also multi-metal safe, making it suitable for use on a broader range of workpiece materials without risk of chemical reaction or staining.

  • The variants differ primarily in viscosity: #1404 is 40 SUS, #1406 is 60 SUS, #1408 is 80 SUS, and #1410 is 100 SUS. Flash points also vary - #1408 has a 280°F flash point versus 260°F for the lighter grades and 400°F for #1410. Choose a lighter grade for applications requiring maximum coolant flow and flushing, and a heavier grade when more lubricity or a higher flash point is needed.

  • Sulfur and chlorine are extreme-pressure additives found in many conventional grinding oils, but they can chemically attack certain metals (such as copper alloys) and may cause discoloration or corrosion on sensitive workpieces. The absence of these compounds makes the #1408 safe for use on a wide variety of metals without the risk of surface damage or contamination.

  • The #1408 is optimized for edge-type filtration. Its narrow molecular weight distribution - a characteristic of its virgin Group II base oil - significantly improves filtering efficiency, helping to keep the oil clean and extend its service life.

  • It is suitable for both central systems and individual machines. The built-in oxidation inhibitors are specifically formulated to extend oil life under recirculating conditions, making it a practical choice for centralized grinding operations.

  • The oil is blended from virgin Group II petroleum oils, which enable finer surface finishes while maximizing cooling and flushing action. Its low viscosity and low misting potential also reduce oil consumption and help maintain a cleaner grinding environment, both of which contribute to consistent finish quality.
