  • 80W/140 is a wide-range gear lubricant viscosity grade where '80W' indicates cold-weather pumpability and '140' indicates the high-temperature viscosity - making it a very thick, heavy-duty oil suited for heavily loaded components such as rear axles, differentials, and final drives on trucks, agricultural equipment, and other heavy-duty machinery that specify this grade.

  • 80W/140 has a significantly higher high-temperature viscosity than 75W-90 or 80W-90, meaning it provides a thicker oil film under heavy loads and high heat - making it appropriate for high-torque, high-stress axle and differential applications where the OEM specifically calls for that grade, rather than a lighter multi-grade oil.

  • Mixing gear oils of different viscosity grades will alter the final viscosity and may compromise performance, so it is best practice to use a consistent product; if switching from another brand, draining and flushing the component before filling with TRUEGARD HD 80W/140 is recommended to maintain the integrity of the lubricant.

  • A 5-gallon pail holds roughly 18.9 liters, which typically exceeds the capacity of a single differential or axle - making this size most cost-effective for fleet operators, shops, or equipment owners servicing multiple units, while still being manageable for a single large piece of equipment with high-volume sumps.
