#1310 HONING OIL is a powerful lubricant and coolant designed for honing and polishing of ferrous alloys. #1310 HONING OIL exhibits outstanding detergency, lubricity, and film strength properties in order to provide the best possible finish on a wide variety of operations.

#1310 HONING OIL is blended from base stocks selected specifically to provide high natural detergency.  In addition, each of the additives used augments the detergency.  High detergency is critical in fine honing and polishing operations in order to remove the very small waste particles generated.

#1310 HONING OIL  provides an exceptionally high level of chemical and physical lubricity intended to improve finishes and provide even wear of polishing and honing belts.   A high degree of lubricity is important in all metalworking operations, but especially in honing and polishing operations.  The exceptionally fine finishes which need to be achieved can be ruined by hot spots on the metal, caused by insufficient lubrication.   Furthermore, the wear of the abrasive belts needs to be predictable and consistent in order to help maintain the desired fin-
ish. #1310 HONING OIL provides the wetting, lubricity, and film strength necessary to answer all these needs.

Frequently asked questions

Find answers to common questions about our products and services
  • Honing Oil 1310 is formulated specifically for use on ferrous alloys, meaning it is intended for iron and steel-based workpieces in honing and polishing operations.

  • During fine honing and polishing, extremely small metal particles (swarf) are generated; if not removed, they can contaminate the work surface and degrade the finish quality. #1310 is blended from base stocks selected specifically for high natural detergency, and each additive in the formula further augments that cleaning action to continuously clear these particles away.

  • The high chemical and physical lubricity of #1310 promotes even, predictable wear across abrasive belts rather than concentrated or accelerated degradation in specific areas, helping to maintain a consistent finish throughout the belt's usable life.

  • Film strength refers to the oil's ability to maintain a protective lubricating layer between the workpiece and the abrasive under operating pressure and heat. In fine honing and polishing, a breakdown in this film creates hot spots on the metal surface that can ruin tight finish tolerances - #1310's film strength properties are specifically engineered to prevent this.

  • Yes, Honing Oil 1310 is designed to serve dual roles as both a lubricant and a coolant during metalworking operations, helping to dissipate heat in addition to reducing friction, which further guards against thermally induced surface damage.

  • According to the product data, #1310 is formulated to deliver high-quality finishes across a wide variety of honing and polishing operations on ferrous alloys, making it a broadly applicable choice rather than a single-use specialty fluid.
