Frequently asked questions

Find answers to common questions about our products and services
  • HALE-PURE 55 meets FDA 21 CFR 172.878 and 178.3620(a), USP, and NF requirements, making it suitable for use in food processing environments where direct or indirect food contact may occur, cosmetic and personal care formulations, and pharmaceutical applications as a non-sterile excipient. It is also Kosher certified by the Chicago Rabbinical Council, broadening its eligibility for food and dietary product manufacturing.

  • The '#5' designation corresponds to a light viscosity grade of 50-66 SUS (6.7-11.0 cSt) at 40°C, which is the lowest end of the HALE-PURE range (55-550 SUS). This light-bodied oil is well suited for applications requiring easy spreading, low drag, or incorporation into thin formulations such as light cosmetic preparations or food-grade incidental contact lubrication; heavier viscosity grades in the HALE-PURE line would be more appropriate for applications demanding greater film thickness or load-bearing properties.

  • No - HALE-PURE 55 is intended solely as a non-sterile excipient in pharmaceutical applications and must not be used as an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API). If your formulation requires an API-grade or sterile-grade mineral oil, a different product would be required.

  • HALE-PURE 55 has a shelf life of up to two years when stored in its sealed, original package at temperatures between 65°F and 95°F. Keeping the tote sealed and within this temperature range is essential to maintaining product integrity over time.

  • Yes - HALE-PURE 55 contains no FDA-listed food allergens, is gluten free, and is GMO free because it is produced entirely from paraffinic raw materials with no biological origin. These declarations are relevant for formulators who must meet labeling, clean-label, or regulatory requirements in food, nutraceutical, or cosmetic products.

  • Yes, Stuart Hale Company indicates that custom formulations of HALE-PURE white mineral oils may be available to meet specific criteria such as smoke point, flash point, and pour point upon request, making it possible to tailor the oil to more demanding or specialized process requirements.
