TRUEGARD 960 is an NSF Certified, food-grade inhibited propylene glycol fluid which is intended for use in antifreeze and heat transfer applications where contact with food may occur, such as wineries, micro-breweries, meatpackers, and other food-related industries.  TRUEGARD 960 is formulated with propylene glycol and an inhibitor system which is effective at preventing rust and corrosion in aluminum, brass, cast iron, copper, solder and steel-containing systems. TRUEGARD 960 is an affordable alternative to DOWFROST inhibited glycol coolant.

Frequently asked questions

Find answers to common questions about our products and services
  • NSF certification means the fluid has been independently evaluated and approved for use in applications where incidental contact with food or beverages may occur, such as fermentation cooling, refrigeration coils, and HVAC systems in food processing environments. This certification is often required by regulatory auditors in industries like wineries, micro-breweries, and meatpacking plants, making TRUEGARD 960 a compliant choice for those operations.

  • Because TRUEGARD 960 is a full-strength concentrate, it must be mixed with water before use; the correct ratio depends on your target freeze protection and operating temperature. The product has a rated operating range of -50°F to 325°F (-46°C to 163°C) at appropriate dilutions, so consult the product data sheet to match your specific freeze-point requirement to the right water-to-glycol mix ratio.

  • The inhibitor system in TRUEGARD 960 is formulated to protect aluminum, brass, cast iron, copper, solder, and steel, making it suitable for the mixed-metal systems common in HVAC, refrigeration, and industrial process equipment.

  • TRUEGARD 960 is explicitly described as an affordable alternative to DOWFROST inhibited glycol coolant and shares the same propylene glycol base with an inhibitor package. While the product data does not detail a specific flush procedure for changeover, it is generally best practice to flush an existing system before switching coolant brands to avoid inhibitor incompatibility and to get accurate performance from the new fluid; consult the product data sheet for guidance.

  • The wide operating range means TRUEGARD 960 can handle both deep-freeze applications such as immersion freezing and cold room dehumidifying, as well as high-temperature process heating and waste heat recovery in a single fluid, reducing the need for separate products in facilities that run both hot and cold processes.

  • While the NSF food-grade certification is designed for facilities where food contact is possible, the fluid's corrosion inhibition, freeze/burst protection, and broad operating range make it equally suitable for standard HVAC freeze and corrosion protection in any building - the food-grade designation simply expands where it can be used, not restricts it.
