TRUEGARD R&O HYDRAULIC OILS are single inhibited hydraulic oils designed for use on low pressure, light duty hydraulic equipment. Applications include forklifts, air tools, and light duty presses.

TRUEGARD R&O HYDRAULIC OILS are made from only the highest quality virgin oils. Improved oxidation resistance, rust protection, and anti-foam properties result in a series of outstanding light to medium duty hydraulic oils.

Frequently asked questions

Find answers to common questions about our products and services
  • R&O stands for Rust and Oxidation inhibited, meaning the oil contains additives specifically to prevent rust, corrosion, and oxidative breakdown - but it does not include the dedicated anti-wear (AW) additives found in AW-grade oils. This makes it appropriate for low-pressure, light-duty systems (such as forklifts, air tools, and light-duty presses) that do not require the vane pump or piston pump wear protection an AW oil provides. Always check your equipment manufacturer's specification to confirm whether an R&O or AW formulation is required.

  • ISO VG 100 is a thicker oil compared to grades like 46 or 68, making it better suited for equipment operating in higher ambient temperatures, running at slower speeds, or having larger internal clearances. A lower viscosity grade would be chosen for tighter-tolerance systems or cooler operating environments. Always verify which viscosity grade your equipment manufacturer specifies before selecting.

  • TRUEGARD R&O Hydraulic Oil AW 100 is formulated from virgin (conventional/mineral) base oils - not synthetic. The product is described as using only the highest quality virgin oils, which deliver improved oxidation resistance, rust protection, and anti-foam performance for light to medium duty applications.

  • No - this oil is specifically designed for low-pressure, light-duty hydraulic equipment. It is not formulated for high-pressure or heavy-duty hydraulic systems, which typically require a full anti-wear (AW) oil with stronger wear protection additives. Using this product outside its intended duty range could result in inadequate equipment protection.

  • This oil provides three key protective properties: improved oxidation resistance (slowing oil degradation from heat and oxygen exposure), rust protection (guarding metal surfaces from moisture-induced corrosion), and anti-foam properties (preventing foam buildup that can cause cavitation or erratic system performance). Together these extend both the service life of the oil and the components it lubricates.

  • The product data does not specify cross-compatibility with other hydraulic oil formulations. As a general best practice, mixing R&O oils with AW or synthetic hydraulic oils is not recommended without a system flush, as doing so can compromise additive packages. Consult the TRUEGARD product data sheet or Safety Data Sheet - both of which are available for this product - along with your equipment manual before performing an oil changeover.
