Frequently asked questions

Find answers to common questions about our products and services
  • This fluid is designed for hydraulically operated food processing equipment including fryers, ovens, breaders, conveyors, and other auxiliary equipment. It is specifically formulated for meat and poultry plants operating under USDA inspection programs that require hydraulic fluids to be acceptable for incidental contact with food.

  • This product is a water glycol fluid, meaning its water-based formulation does not ignite under conventional test conditions — so flash point and fire point measurements are not applicable. This inherent non-flammability is what makes it suitable for food plant areas with open flames or high operating temperatures.

  • Yes — beyond confirming the fluid's fire resistant performance to protect personnel and property, the Factory Mutual Approval may also help lower your facility's insurance premiums, as noted for this product.

  • This fluid has a pour point of -40°F, providing excellent stability in cold weather conditions. Its high viscosity index also allows it to perform reliably across a wide temperature range, so it does not require changing out when operating temperatures vary significantly.

  • This fluid has a viscosity of 200 SUS at 100°F. Before using it in your system, confirm that your pump and component manufacturer's viscosity requirements are compatible with this grade — consult the Technical Data Sheet or your Houghton representative for detailed system compatibility guidance.

  • Handling, health, and disposal information is provided in the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for this product. All precautions on the container label should be read and understood before use, and the MSDS should be shared with employees and anyone else who comes into contact with the fluid.
