  • TRUEGARD #1011A is engineered specifically for screw machine and lathe operations - including drilling, reaming, boring, tapping, and threading - on steel and steel alloys. It is formulated for less severe machining tasks rather than the most demanding heavy-duty cutting applications, so operators requiring extreme-duty performance on harder alloys should evaluate whether a more aggressive cutting oil is needed.

  • An active cutting oil contains reactive additives - in this case, a blend of sulfur and fat - that chemically bond to metal surfaces under the heat and pressure generated during cutting. This reaction forms a protective boundary layer that provides superior extreme pressure (EP) protection and film strength compared to inactive oils, which rely on physical lubrication alone. This is especially important for operations like tapping and threading where tool-to-workpiece contact is severe.

  • The product is specified for steel and steel alloys only. Active cutting oils containing reactive sulfur are known to stain or corrode non-ferrous metals such as copper, brass, and aluminum, so using TRUEGARD #1011A on those materials is not recommended.
