TRUEGARD GEAR OILS are designed for heavy duty, continuous operation as well as shock loading on all types of industrial steel and bronze gearing. The lighter grades may be used to lubricate highly loaded bearings where common machine oils do not provide the necessary extreme pressure properties. The thicker grades are exceptional worm gear oils.

TRUEGARD GEAR OILS exhibit superb oxidation inhibition and resistance to viscosity loss to give these oils exceptional high temperature stability and long life. The extreme pressure lubricity is achieved without the use of active sulfur, allowing these oils to lubricate without risk of staining. Combine these properties with very good rust protection and anti-foam properties and these oils offer distinct operating advantages to the industrial user.

Frequently asked questions

Find answers to common questions about our products and services
  • ISO VG 220 is a relatively thick viscosity grade, meaning this oil flows more slowly and provides a robust lubricating film under heavy loads and low speeds. According to the product data, thicker grades like EP 220 are especially well-suited for worm gear applications, as well as heavy-duty industrial steel and bronze gearing operating under continuous or shock-load conditions.

  • Active sulfur compounds, commonly used in EP additives, can chemically react with and stain or corrode non-ferrous metals such as bronze. Because this oil achieves its extreme pressure lubricity without active sulfur, it can be safely used in gearboxes containing bronze components without risk of chemical staining or material damage.

  • The product description notes that lighter grades in the TRUEGARD Gear Oil line are recommended for highly loaded bearings where standard machine oils fall short on extreme pressure performance. At ISO VG 220, this is a thicker grade that is primarily optimized for worm gears and heavy-duty gearing rather than most bearing applications; a lighter EP grade would typically be the better choice for bearing lubrication.

  • TRUEGARD Gear Oil EP 220 is formulated with superb oxidation inhibition and resistance to viscosity loss, which together give it exceptional high-temperature stability and extended service life. This means the oil resists breaking down or thinning out under sustained high-temperature operation, helping maintain consistent film strength and protection over time.

  • Yes, the formulation includes both rust protection and anti-foam properties. These additives help prevent corrosion on metal surfaces inside the gearbox and minimize foam buildup that can reduce lubricant effectiveness, both of which are important for reliable continuous industrial operation.

  • The product data does not address compatibility with other gear oil brands or formulations. As a general best practice for industrial lubricants, it is recommended to drain and clean the system before switching to a new oil to avoid contamination and ensure full performance of the new lubricant; consult the equipment manufacturer's guidelines or contact the supplier for specific changeover guidance.
