TRUEGARD GEAR OILS are designed for heavy duty, continuous operation as well as shock loading on all types of industrial steel and bronze gearing. The lighter grades may be used to lubricate highly loaded bearings where common machine oils do not provide the necessary extreme pressure properties. The thicker grades are exceptional worm gear oils.

TRUEGARD GEAR OILS exhibit superb oxidation inhibition and resistance to viscosity loss to give these oils exceptional high temperature stability and long life. The extreme pressure lubricity is achieved without the use of active sulfur, allowing these oils to lubricate without risk of staining. Combine these properties with very good rust protection and anti-foam properties and these oils offer distinct operating advantages to the industrial user.

Frequently asked questions

Find answers to common questions about our products and services
  • ISO VG 460 is a high-viscosity grade, meaning the oil is relatively thick at operating temperature. TRUEGARD's product data identifies the thicker grades in this line as exceptional worm gear oils, where high viscosity is needed to sustain a protective film under the sliding-contact conditions typical of worm gear sets.

  • Yes. The oil achieves its extreme pressure lubricity without the use of active sulfur, which is the additive type known to chemically attack and stain bronze or other yellow-metal components. This makes it compatible with gearboxes that incorporate bronze worm wheels, bushings, or similar parts.

  • Standard machine oils often lack the extreme pressure (EP) properties needed for highly loaded contact conditions. TRUEGARD Gear Oil 460 is specifically formulated with EP lubricity to handle heavy-duty, continuous operation and shock loading on industrial steel and bronze gearing, as well as highly loaded bearings where conventional oils fall short.

  • The formulation includes superb oxidation inhibition and resistance to viscosity loss, giving it exceptional high-temperature stability and long service life. This is particularly important in continuous-duty industrial applications where gear oil temperatures can rise significantly over extended operation.

  • In addition to extreme pressure lubricity, TRUEGARD Gear Oil 460 offers rust protection to guard metal surfaces against corrosion and anti-foam properties to prevent aeration - both critical for maintaining a consistent and reliable lubricating film inside industrial gearboxes.

  • Yes - the TRUEGARD Gear Oil line spans multiple viscosity grades. The product data notes that lighter grades are suitable for highly loaded bearings and applications where EP properties are needed but a thinner film is acceptable, while thicker grades such as the 460 are recommended for worm gear applications. Consult the gearbox manufacturer's specifications to confirm the correct ISO VG grade for your equipment.
