TRUEGARD GEAR OILS are designed for heavy duty, continuous operation as well as shock loading on all types of industrial steel and bronze gearing. The lighter grades may be used to lubricate highly loaded bearings where common machine oils do not provide the necessary extreme pressure properties. The thicker grades are exceptional worm gear oils.

TRUEGARD GEAR OILS exhibit superb oxidation inhibition and resistance to viscosity loss to give these oils exceptional high temperature stability and long life. The extreme pressure lubricity is achieved without the use of active sulfur, allowing these oils to lubricate without risk of staining. Combine these properties with very good rust protection and anti-foam properties and these oils offer distinct operating advantages to the industrial user.

Frequently asked questions

Find answers to common questions about our products and services
  • This oil is designed for heavy-duty, continuous operation as well as shock loading on all types of industrial steel and bronze gearing. Its 460 viscosity grade also makes it particularly well-suited for worm gear applications, where thicker oils are needed to maintain proper film strength.

  • EP indicates the oil contains additives that provide enhanced lubricity under heavy loads where standard machine oils would break down and allow metal-to-metal contact. This is especially important in high-load gear and bearing applications where conventional oils lack the necessary film strength.

  • Active sulfur in some EP gear oils can chemically react with yellow metals such as bronze, causing corrosive staining or surface damage. Because TRUEGARD Gear Oil EP 460 delivers its extreme pressure lubricity without active sulfur, it can safely be used in gearboxes containing bronze components without risk of staining or material degradation.

  • ISO 460 is a high-viscosity grade, meaning the oil maintains a thick, robust lubricating film - ideal for slow-moving, heavily loaded gear sets and worm gears that require high film thickness. It is not typically suited for high-speed, lightly loaded applications where a lower-viscosity grade would be more appropriate.

  • TRUEGARD Gear Oil EP 460 is formulated with superb oxidation inhibition and resistance to viscosity loss, providing exceptional high-temperature stability and long service life. This helps prevent oil degradation, sludge formation, and the need for frequent oil changes in continuous industrial operations.

  • Yes - the formulation includes both rust protection and anti-foam properties. Rust inhibitors guard internal metal surfaces against moisture-induced corrosion, while anti-foam additives prevent air entrainment that can reduce lubrication effectiveness and cause cavitation damage in gear systems.
