The grade number refers to the oil's viscosity - lower numbers indicate a lighter, thinner oil suited for very high-speed spindles where minimal drag and heat generation are critical, while higher numbers (10, 15) are better suited for slower-speed or heavier-load spindle applications. Spindle Oil 6 sits near the light end of the range, making it a good choice for high-speed precision spindles that require low-viscosity lubrication.

This oil is specifically formulated for high-speed machine tool spindles, such as those found on lathes, milling machines, grinders, and similar precision machining equipment. It is described as light bodied and light colored to suit the demands of close-tolerance, high-speed spindle systems.

Demulsibility is the oil's ability to separate cleanly from water rather than forming an emulsion. In a machine tool environment where coolant or moisture can contact the spindle, an oil with good demulsibility prevents water-contaminated oil from causing corrosion or creating conditions where spindles and chucks seize shut - a specific benefit the product is formulated to address.

TRUEGARD Spindle Oil 6 is a straight mineral-based spindle oil and is applied undiluted directly to the spindle lubrication system - it is not a concentrate and does not require mixing with water or other fluids before use.

The oil is compounded with additives that give excellent resistance to both wear and corrosion, protecting metal spindle surfaces and bearings from degradation under continuous high-speed operation and from rust or oxidation caused by moisture exposure in a shop environment.

A 55-gallon drum is best suited for shops with multiple machines or continuous production use where spindle oil consumption is ongoing; for lower-volume needs, smaller package sizes may be more practical. The drum should be stored in a cool, dry area away from direct heat sources, and the SDS (available for grades 4, 6, 10, and 15) provides full storage and handling guidance.
