TRUEGARD R&O HYDRAULIC OILS are single inhibited hydraulic oils designed for use on low pressure, light duty hydraulic equipment. Applications include forklifts, air tools, and light duty presses.

TRUEGARD R&O HYDRAULIC OILS are made from only the highest quality virgin oils. Improved oxidation resistance, rust protection, and anti-foam properties result in a series of outstanding light to medium duty hydraulic oils.

Frequently asked questions

Find answers to common questions about our products and services
  • R&O stands for Rust and Oxidation inhibited, meaning the oil contains additives specifically to prevent rust formation and slow oil oxidation, but it does not include the anti-wear (AW) additives found in AW-grade hydraulic oils. Because it lacks those anti-wear additives, it is formulated for low-pressure, light-duty systems rather than the high-pressure hydraulic circuits that typically require AW protection.

  • This oil is designed for low-pressure, light-duty hydraulic equipment such as forklifts, air tools, and light-duty presses. It is not intended for high-pressure hydraulic systems or heavy-duty applications that require anti-wear additives - using it in those systems could lead to inadequate component protection.

  • ISO VG 68 is a medium-to-heavier viscosity grade, meaning the oil is thicker than ISO VG 46 at operating temperature. A VG 68 grade is generally better suited for equipment operating in warmer ambient environments or systems whose manufacturer specifies a heavier oil to maintain sufficient film thickness at elevated temperatures. Always verify the viscosity grade specified in your equipment's manual before selecting.

  • Improved oxidation resistance slows the chemical breakdown of the oil over time, which extends oil service life and helps protect internal hydraulic components from corrosive byproducts. Anti-foam properties prevent air entrainment in the fluid, reducing the risk of erratic system response and cavitation damage to pumps.

  • Virgin base oils are oils that have never been used or re-refined, which provides a more consistent chemical composition and starting quality compared to re-refined alternatives. This consistency supports the oil's stated performance characteristics, including its rust protection, oxidation resistance, and anti-foam behavior.

  • The product data does not specify compatibility when mixing with other hydraulic fluids, and combining different formulations - particularly R&O with AW oils - can compromise additive performance and alter viscosity. It is recommended to consult the product data sheet or flush the system before switching to this oil.
