Shell Gadus S2 V220 greases are high quality multipurpose, extreme-pressure greases based on a blend of high viscosity index mineral oils and a lithium hydroxystearate soap thickener and contain extreme-pressure and other proven additives to enhance their performance in a wide range of applications. Shell Gadus S2 V220 greases are designed for multipurpose grease lubrication of rolling element and plain bearings as well as hinges and sliding surfaces such as those found in throughout most industrial and transport sectors.

Outstanding load carrying capacity Shell Gadus S2 V220 greases contain special extreme pressure additives which enable them to withstand heavy and shock loads without failure of the lubricant film. Improved mechanical stability This is particularly important in vibrating environments where poor mechanical stability can lead to grease softening with subsequent loss of lubrication performance and leakage. Good resistance to water wash-out Shell Gadus S2 V220 greases have been formulated to offer resistance to water wash-out. Oxidation stability Specially selected base oil components have excellent oxidation resistance. Their consistency will not alter in storage and they withstand high operating temperatures without hardening or forming bearing deposits. Anti- corrosion protection Shell Gadus S2 V220 greases have an affinity with metal and have the ability to protect bearing surfaces against corrosion, even when the grease is contaminated with water. It is specifically well suited for heavy-duty bearings operating under harsh conditions including shock loading in wet environments, as well as steel mill lubrication where a medium-consistency grease is compatible with standard dispensing systems.

  • NLGI Grade 2 is a medium-stiffness consistency — among the most widely used grades in industrial and transport applications — and is compatible with most standard grease guns and centralized lubrication systems. Its worked penetration range of 265–295 (at 25°C) confirms this medium body. If your application requires a softer grease for specialized dispensing systems, such as in certain steel mill setups, the NLGI Grade 0 variant in the Gadus S2 V220 range is the recommended choice for those systems.

  • V220 refers to the base oil kinematic viscosity of 220 cSt at 40°C (19 cSt at 100°C), which is a relatively high viscosity. This makes the grease particularly well suited for heavily loaded, slower-moving, or plain bearings where a thicker lubricating film is needed to prevent metal-to-metal contact and withstand demanding operating conditions.

  • Special extreme-pressure additives allow the grease to withstand heavy and shock loads without failure of the lubricant film, making it reliable in applications prone to sudden impact forces. It has also been formulated for good resistance to water wash-out and retains its ability to protect bearing surfaces against corrosion even when contaminated with water, thanks to its strong affinity with metal surfaces.

  • The dropping point of 180°C (measured by IP 396) is the temperature at which the grease structure begins to break down and lose its consistency. In practice, continuous operating temperatures should remain comfortably below this value. The grease has been formulated with oxidation-resistant base oils so that it will not harden or form bearing deposits during high-temperature operation, and its consistency will remain stable during storage.

  • The grease contains specially selected base oil components with excellent oxidation resistance, meaning its consistency will not change during storage and it resists hardening or deposit formation at elevated operating temperatures.
